Jammu & Kashmir: Army conducted Shikaar race at Dal Lake

Srinagar: A Shikara Race was organised by 20 Rashtriya Rifles (DOGRA) under the agies of Chinar Corps at Dal Lake Srinagar on 20 Sep 2020 with an aim of encouraging the youth and promoting tourism. A total of 15 Shikaras participated in this event. The race was an effort to display and highlight the beauty of Dal Lake and the Shikara ride to the whole world.

The race was flagged off by Col Praveen Kumar, Commanding Officer 20, Rashtriya Rifles (DOGRA) amid much enthusiasm and excitement. The event was witnessed by a huge crowd including tourists and locals of Srinagar. The families and supporters of the Shikara owners were seen encouraging them.

The 03 km race concluded in 40 mins. Ashiq Dar who won the Shikara race, was awarded First Prize of 10,000 Rupees. The second and third positions were bagged by Ghulam Nabi Bhatt and Faroq Ahmad Bhatt respectively.

The Shikara race at Dal Lake was conducted with the technical support of 144 CRPF Battalion with full cooperation of local administration as well as from Police. The initiative also included distribution of aid and relief packets to all the participants.

On completion of the event, participants and the locals expressed their gratitude towards the Army for helping them during the times of the pandemic.
